5 Easy Fixes for Common Computer Problems

Individuals have become so dependent on the computers that when anything goes wrong it results in huge losses to them. No doubt, you would want to quickly backup your data; however, it won’t be easy for you at that instance. A vast number of things can go wrong within your PC and sometimes the reason for them may be hard to guess. Sometimes you may get stuck in a situation where you would have no idea on how and where to start troubleshooting your PC.

A simple root cause can have a vast number of issues. Before seeking professional help (which is; however, advisable in most of the cases otherwise), you can go through the fixes mentioned below to check if the issues get resolved by yourself.

Run a Virus Scan

One of the most effective fixes is running a virus scan. Launch your threats-scanning software, and follow along the most thorough and the deepest scan available and leave the rest of the work on it. Please be noted that you will have to check what type of scan has been set to run on your system by default and further select the most comprehensive scan available. Also make sure your scanner has the latest security patch on it, so that it can deal with even the most recent malicious codes.

Update your Software

Unpatched and outdated software are one of the major reasons for ransomware attacks, glitchy keyboards, and more. Luckily, now most of the updates happen automatically. However, sometimes you need to update the software manually and, in that case, you need to go to the Settings, then click on Update & Security to apply the pending updates on Windows. If you want to apply the pending updates on macOS, open the App Store from the dock or launch the “Applications” screen in the Finder, and go to the Updates tab, and figure out the pending updates and apply them. Manually checking for the updates regarding the applications and antivirus programs is crucial, even if you have set them to be updated automatically.

Remove the Unwanted Files

Leaving old, unwanted files or programs on your storage drive might harm your device’s operating system. Your system’s operating system will have to work harder to process those files, and while doing so, they may get broken up thereby spreading out further as the system tries to save them. This will lead to the shortage of free space on your PC.

If your PC is lagging in performance it might be because of the weightage of the apps that you have installed on it. So, it is better to uninstall the apps that are not required any longer. You can uninstall them by going to the Apps section of your PC’s Settings on Windows. Mac users may drag the shortcut for the app to the trash or by clicking and holding the app icon on the Launchpad until it appears to be shaking, then click on the X icon.

Test your Wi-Fi connection

This method is applicable only to the issues related to your internet connection. If your router is not offering you a robust net connection, you need to get in touch with the service provider for assistance.

If your PC is getting a good net connection while it has been directly plugged into the router and not while you are browsing over Wi-Fi, there might be an underlying issue with your Wi-Fi. In that case, you need to try finding the strongest possible signal at your home. If it doesn’t resolve your issue, you need to reboot your router.

Reinstall the OS

Reinstalling macOS or Windows from scratch is the most extreme possible solution mentioned. Though it may be a more complex troubleshooting method available, it however helps in the complete removal of troublesome programs, completely wipes out malwares and viruses, reboots your internet connection settings and does a lot more. But before you proceed with this solution, you need to ensure that you have backed up all the data.

So, these were some of the fixes that you can use to resolve common issues on your PC.
