Notably, the feature we are talking about works on all the iPads and iPad Pros that are compatible with an Apple Pencil. Therefore, the steps to use the feature are:

  • Launch the ‘Notes’ app from the home screen of your iPad.
  • In case there are no existing handwritten notes, open a New Note window.
  • Select the ‘Pencil’ icon from the toolbar at the top of the screen.
  • A ‘Pencil’ options window will open. Select the ‘Pen’ option.
  • Now, start writing with an Apple Pencil on the screen of your iPad. You can use multiple pages to write.
  • Once you’re done writing, select the text using your fingers. All you need to do is double-tap to select.
  • A selection point will highlight the word. Further, drag the selection to select the complete text.

Alternatively, press and hold on an empty part of the screen until a menu pop-up. Select the ‘Select all’ option to choose the complete text.

  • Once selected, tap on the text, and a new pop-up menu will appear. Select the ‘Copy as Text’ option from the menu.

Finally, the handwritten text will get converted to the typed text that’ll be saved in the clipboard.

You can further paste the selected text anywhere you want. All you need to do is open the space and double-tap on the screen. A menu will appear. Further, select the ‘Paste’ option, and it’ll be done.

It is essential to mention that you don’t have to worry about which Apple Pencil to use. Fortunately, any generation Apple Pencil works for the process. Isn’t that amazing?

So, what are you waiting for? Write down the pending grocery list using an Apple Pencil on your iPad and convert the same into typed text.
